The Maritime Knowledge Hub has just held a conference with the participating professors, sponsors and universities. The conference took place at Det norske Veritas at Hovik outside Oslo. Sponsors and professors here got to meet up for the first time, and discuss common issues.

The Maritime Knowledge Hub is unique in matching sponsors like shipowners and shipbuilders and others in the maritime cluster in Norway, with the academic community. Never before has an initiative of this standard and size been established in Norway.

So far there has been established 14 chairs within fields like cybernetics, logistics and environmentally friendly technology. The private sponsors pay for a professor for five years, and then Forskningsrådet reinforces each gift with phD-scholarships.

Maritime Knowledge Hub has been established by Norges Rederiforbund (The shipowner’s association) and Oslo Maritime Network. Professor Torger Reve has been a vital force in the realisation of the programme.

The Hub has now established a new netsite at www.knowledgehub.no. The site provides information about each of the chairs, sponsors and recipients.

At the same time Oslo Maritime Network has established their new site at www.oslomaritime.org. This site is about the maritim cluster in Oslo and Norway.
